The Move from WordPress to Wix at Wrenegade Studios
Wordpress Vs Squarespace Vs Wix
Hey everyone! 👋 Big news – We just recently moved Wrenegade Studios away from WordPress and embraced Wix. Wondering why? Here's the lowdown:
Why We Left WordPress Behind:
1. User-Friendly Interface: Wix won us over with its simplicity. No coding headaches – just drag and drop elements wherever we wanted them.
2. All-in-One Platform: WordPress had us hunting for plugins to meet various needs. Wix, on the other hand, consolidates everything we require within its platform, saving us time and ensuring smoother integration.
3. Design Freedom, Minus the Glitches: We initially turned to Elementor on WordPress for design flexibility, but it brought along its fair share of compatibility issues and glitches. Wix's design tools proved to be just as dynamic, if not more, without the technical hiccups.
4. Robust App Market: Wix's App Market made a significant impact. If we need e-commerce capabilities, forums, members areas or anything else? Wix's app selection had us covered, making it a one-stop shop for our website needs.
5. Responsive Customer Support: WordPress relies heavily on community support, but Wix took customer service up a notch. Quick, responsive, and genuinely helpful.
What We Found Challenging with WordPress:
1. Ongoing Maintenance Woes: WordPress updates became a bit of a chore. Wix automates updates seamlessly, freeing up our time for more meaningful tasks like actually creating games!
2. Plugin Pitfalls: Too many plugins on WordPress can lead to compatibility issues, slow performance, or conflicts. Wix's streamlined approach reduces the risk of these plugin-related headaches.
3. Elementor Learning Curve: Elementor on WordPress promised a lot in terms of design flexibility, but getting the hang of it took more time than anticipated. Wix's design tools offered a smoother learning curve.
Elementor and WordPress: A Complicated Relationship:
Elementor had its highlights, but the compatibility issues and occasional glitches often left us scratching our heads. It started feeling like a complicated relationship – on again, off again – and we decided it was time for a change. Comparing Squarespace and Wix: Finding the Right Fit:
While considering alternatives, we also weighed the pros and cons of Squarespace. Here's a brief comparison:
Squarespace's Aesthetic Appeal: Squarespace is known for its sleek, modern templates, making it an excellent choice for visually-focused websites.
Wix's Design Flexibility: Wix provides robust design tools and a more flexible editing interface, giving users greater control over the look and feel of their site.
Squarespace's E-commerce Features: Squarespace excels in e-commerce, offering powerful tools for those focused on selling products online.
Wix's App Market: Wix's extensive App Market makes it versatile, offering various functionalities beyond just e-commerce.
In the end, Wix won us over for its balance of user-friendliness, design flexibility, and comprehensive features. Your choice between Squarespace and Wix will depend on your specific needs and preferences. In our case, we didn't need to choose from a multitude of templates as we planned to build from the ground up and try and replicate what we had on our Wordpress site before the move. We also didn't currently need the e-commerce capabilities that Squarespace offered.
In Conclusion: Making Wix Our Web Home:
In the end, Wix emerged as the practical choice for Wrenegade Studios. For what we needed Wix is efficient, straightforward, and aligns seamlessly with our vision for a hassle-free online presence. Here's to a new chapter with Wix!
